Tororo Girls' School is a non-denominational institution that upholds the freedom of religion, allowing students to practice their faith openly and respectfully.
The school has seen a significant growth in its Muslim student population, increasing from just ten (10) students in 2011 to over one hundred twenty (120) today. This growth reflects the school’s commitment to religious inclusivity, which is a recognized and respected part of school life.
To support the needs of our Muslim students, Tororo Girls’ School provides transportation for an Imam every Friday for Jumah prayers and on Sundays for additional teachings. In addition, we employ three Muslim teachers who are dedicated to supporting the welfare of our Muslim community on campus.
Under the guidance of Patron Barabwiriza Abdul, the Muslim Students’ Association was successfully established and registered with the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council, with the support of Tororo District Khadi Sheikh Yusufu Asante (at the time) and our School Imam Sheikh Hussein Kafuko. This association has opened doors for our Muslim students to actively participate in leadership and Dawah activities at school, district, and regional levels. In recognition of their active involvement, Tororo Girls' School was recently honored by the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council to represent Ugandan schools at the historic first Muslim Martyrs Day Commemoration on June 10, 2024, under the theme “Religious Tolerance: The Solution to Bigotry.”
At school, Muslim students are provided with a dedicated, peaceful space to perform all five daily prayers, Jumah, and Sunday teachings without interruptions. During Ramadan, the school goes above and beyond to ensure that our Muslim students feel supported, with Iftar meals catered to their needs and a special arrangement for Daku meals with pillowed rice throughout the holy month and for the six additional days of Sitat.
Idd celebrations are truly special at Tororo Girls’ School, with the day being recognized and respected by the entire school community. Students often remark that the warmth and inclusivity of our Idd celebrations feel even more celebratory than at home, with the full support of the Board of Governors, PTA, and School Administration.
Our heartfelt thanks go to the Board of Governors, PTA, and School Administration for creating an environment where Muslim students can fully observe and celebrate their faith.
