SCHOOL HEADS DIVE INTO TAX TALK IN TORORO

They say a good teacher is the strength of a nation. Building on this belief, Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) engaged head teachers, administrators and management of educational institutions across the Cement Capital - Tororo City on Wednesday, 23rd April, 2025.
The session, held at the prestigious Tororo Girls School - and one of the top domestic tax contributors in the Tororo Domestic Taxes (DT) jurisdiction - brought together stakeholders from primary, secondary and tertiary schools for a robust dialogue on tax compliance.

This outreach is part of URA’s broader, sector-specific tax education strategy aimed at increasing awareness about taxpayer rights and obligations. The approach covers key areas such as taxpayer registration, return filing, payments and dispute resolution.
Robert Wamala, the Ag. Manager – Tax Education Content, while addressing the audience noted that, “as a parent, I will trust a school with my children when I know that it is compliant with all the requirements from all the regulators be it the tax authority, education ministry, local government etc.”
The spirit of partnership was the loudest message of the day. URA has deepened collaboration with key stakeholders. Partnering with municipal councils through the District Education Officers (DEOs) has made mobilization of school leaders very seamless hence the stellar turn-up. The schools have also been receptive such as Tororo Girls School which even offered the venue free of charge.
“It is through such engagements that we’re able to foster voluntary compliance by highlighting common tax compliance mistakes so that people can make informed decisions,” Aturo said, “when we collaborate, we answer many previously unanswered questions. We're here to support, guide and hand-hold—not to police.”
