On August 8th, Tororo Girls’ School became the vibrant stage for Ball Games 2, a two-week sporting event that brought together more than 4,000 girls from schools across Uganda. The campus turned into a hive of energy, competition, and camaraderie as students engaged in high-level matches of netball, chess, basketball, and beach soccer.

From the moment the teams arrived, it was clear this wasn’t just about winning—it was about showcasing talent, building friendships, and celebrating the power of girls in sport. The games ran from August 8th to 22nd, transforming every field and court into a scene of action, skill, and passion.

A True Festival of Girls’ Sports

Netball took center stage with intense matches that drew loud, enthusiastic crowds. Basketball showed off impressive coordination and athleticism, while beach soccer—played on a custom sand pitch—brought a fresh, fast-paced excitement to the grounds. Chess provided a quieter but equally fierce battlefield, where minds clashed over 64 squares in brilliant displays of strategy and composure.

Every evening, the school was alive with song, laughter, and shared stories. Athletes from different backgrounds mingled freely, learning from each other and forming bonds that stretched beyond competition.

Tororo Girls Shines as Host

With its well-organized staff, dedicated student volunteers, and spacious campus, Tororo Girls’ School was praised by coaches and guests alike for its exceptional hospitality. Dormitories and classrooms were rearranged to house the visiting students, while the school kitchen ensured thousands of meals were served on time each day.

In her welcome address, the headteacher said:

“Ball Games 2 is not just about sports—it’s about leadership, confidence, and creating spaces where girls can shine. We are proud to host such a meaningful event.”

More Than a Tournament

The event also boosted the local economy as visitors patronized nearby shops and services. But perhaps the biggest impact was the inspiration it gave—both to the participants and the young girls watching from the sidelines, dreaming of their turn on the court or board.

As the games closed on August 22nd and the best teams collected their trophies, it was clear that Ball Games 2 had been a resounding success—not just in scores, but in spirit.
