Tororo Girls School was alive with excitement and energy as students, staff, and guests gathered to celebrate the annual Sports Day, held over two days—Thursday 5th and Saturday 7th June 2025. The event brought together six house teams named after planets: Jupiter, Mars, Pluto, Mercury, Venus, and Neptune. These teams competed fiercely in a range of athletic events including javelin, shot put, triple jump, high jump, and various track events.
Venus Shines Brightest
After two thrilling days of competition, Venus emerged victorious, dominating the events with an impressive 151 points. Pluto followed in second place with 122 points, while Mercury secured third with 118 points. Mars (55 points), Jupiter (54), and Neptune (49) rounded out the final standings. The results reflected not only athletic prowess but also the strong house spirit and preparation that each team brought to the field.
Highlights and Events
Participants showcased remarkable talent and discipline across all categories. The field events, particularly the high jump and triple jump, drew loud cheers from spectators, while the javelin and shot put competitions highlighted the strength and technique of many students. The athletic races were competitive and fast-paced, with many photo finishes keeping the crowd on edge.
Guests and Recognition
The school was honored to host Hon. Appolo Yeri, Member of Parliament for Tororo Municipality, as the chief guest. In his address, Hon. Yeri commended the school for nurturing talent and promoting co-curricular activities. He generously donated 1 million shillings to support the sports department and provided new balls for the football and basketball teams. He also promised to buy a full uniform for the school’s football team, a gesture that was warmly received by both students and staff.
Other notable guests included Mrs. Obbo Teddy, the Municipal Education Officer, who applauded the school for its commitment to holistic education. The Headteacher and staff were present throughout, offering support and encouragement to the students.
Appreciation
Special thanks go to the Planet Heads for their dedication in preparing participants and fostering team unity. The success of the event also owed much to the hard work and coordination of the sports committee, led by Mr. Okoed Charles, whose leadership ensured everything ran smoothly.
